Philippines travel advice

A magnitude 5.7 earthquake shook Batangas Wednesday night, state seismologists said, with strong tremors felt in Metro Manila and nearby areas.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the tectonic quake hit at 7:52 p.m. and was centered 22 kilometers southwest of Calatagan, Batangas.

The U.S. Geological Survey meanwhile reported the same earthquake as a magnitude 5.6 tremor.

The quake was felt as intensity 5 shocks in Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro; Batangas City; as well as in Occidental Mindoro towns of Looc, Lubang, Mamburao, Sablayan and Abra de Ilog.

It was felt as intensity 4 in Malolos, Bulacan; Tagaytay City; Cavite towns of Mabini, Batangas; Indang, Rosario;  as well as in Oriental Mindoro towns of Naujan, San Teodoro, Pola,  and Socorro.

Quezon City; Pasig City; Taguig City; Manila City; Paranaque City; Bacoor, Cavite; Baco, Or. Mindoro; San Jose, Occ. Mindoro; Talisay, Batangas, Taal Volcano Island felt it as intensity 3 shocks.

Intensity 2 shocks were felt in Binangonan, Rizal; Lucban, Quezon; Makati City; San Pedro, Laguna. Caloocan City also felt the earthquake as intensity 1 tremors.
