Presidential and National Assembly elections were held on 28-29 March 2015. Gubernatorial and State Assembly elections will be held on 11 April 2015.
There will be restrictions on travel between 8am and 5pm on 28 March and 11 April. Only vehicles accredited to observe/manage the elections and emergency vehicles will be allowed on public roads. Further restrictions on vehicle or other movements may be imposed at short notice, particularly on election days.
The Nigerian government has confirmed that all land and sea borders (but not airports) will be closed from midnight on 25 March to midnight on 28 March.
You should monitor local media, be vigilant, take extra care and avoid areas where there are political or other large public gatherings. Rallies or protests may be called at short notice and could disrupt travel.
There is a high threat from terrorism. Most attacks occur in the north east, particularly in Borno, Yobe, Adamawa and Gombe states. There have also been significant attacks in Kano, Kaduna, Jos, Bauchi, Abuja and Lagos, and Gombe on 28 March, election day. Further attacks while tensions are heightened during the elections period could occur anywhere. Major urban centers in the North of Nigeria are particularly at risk, including Abuja, Bauchi, Kano and Kaduna.
