There is a high threat from terrorism. In 2014, there have been explosive attacks in Damaturu, Kano, Jos, Kaduna, Gombe, Potiskum, Abuja and Lagos, with multiple casualties.

Two bomb attacks have been reported on 11 December at the Terminus Market in Jos, Plateau State. Casualties are unknown. If you are in Jos we advise you to be vigilant.

Two bomb attacks on 10 December in the textile market in Kano, northern Nigeria resulted in several fatalities.

A bomb attack on 28 November near the main central mosque by the Emir’s palace in Kano, northern Nigeria resulted in a large number of fatalities. There are reports of civil disturbances and disorder in the area around the mosque including looting.

A bomb attack on 12 November at the Federal College of Education, Kontagora, Niger State resulted in a number of fatalities.

In recent years, attacks have taken place around religious and public holidays in public or crowded places, including places of worship. You should be particularly vigilant during these periods. Avoid affected areas in the immediate aftermath of any attack.

You should avoid public places where crowds gather including religious gatherings and insecure public spaces like markets and transport hubs.
