On 21 November, the World Health Organisation (WHO) reported on an outbreak of plague in Madagascar. Plague in Madagascar tends to be seasonal and occurs mainly during the rainy season and around 500 cases are reported annually. Since August 2014, there have been 119 identified cases and 40 deaths. Cases have been reported in 16 districts of seven regions including two cases in the capital, Antananarivo.
